Peace
Seedlings 2021 Seedlist
Thank you for
finding our list of Seed offerings! We
are grateful to be offering you a unique variety of seeds and tubers. The wealth of knowledge that is held in a
seed is incomprehensible. We complete
one more cycle from seed to seed, tuber to tuber, continuing one of humans oldest
traditions. Many of the plants we grow
as well as most common garden plants (corn, tomatos, pepper,…) we can thank
countless Indigenous peoples who selected them for countless generations.
After getting a serious flood in 2019 we were hoping for a mellow year. By the end of winter the growing pandemic had
the feel of a flood coming. It was hard
to know how to prepare, so we just kept
planting more and more seeds. We
noticed we were not the only one finding peace in the garden. We got more orders in late spring than
normal, although not having a easy
click and order set up, we were not swamped like some seed companies. But enough people had patience to send in an
order and we kept busy enough. Thanks for ordering seeds and gardening.
The
garden year was off to a good start,
despite a growing pandemic,
Plants grew like crazy with optimally timed rain sequences and sunny
periods. Fruit trees were dripping
fruits as if to offer a little conselation for a rough year. By August we were harvesting nice seed
batches, eating fresh fruits and feeling thankful to have a garden to be
in. Then came some of the worst wild
fires the West has seen. We happened to
be camping in the mountains that night,
so we got to share the experince that many people dealt with this
summer, evacuating in the middle of the
night. We were at least lucky that we
had somewhere to go back to as our home and garden were not close to any of the
fires, unlike many. Even being many miles from the fire, the smoke was so intense that all work was
ludicrous to impossible. For a couple of
weeks in the prime, end of summer weather, you could basically do nothing. It
was another humbling and scary natural event.
Through
it all, we still pulled off some amazing seeds this year, and
completed many breeding projects. So
please take some time to find some new seeds to you, expand your awareness of possibilities, and nurture the earth that has and will reciprocate so much back to you.
We grow
everything organikally, the K is for
know your farmer and know your source. All varieties are bred and selected by us, open-pollinated
and public domain, some very new, and
others very old, trusted selected heirlooms. Squash and zucchini are hand pollinated to insure true cultivars.
In our continuing work of preserving heirlooms at the same time as breeding new
varieties, occasional crossing happens (less then 1%). So, occasional rogue plants can happen in a
seed batch. We strive to preserve the
lines we offer but evolution is always in process. Thanks for gardening and being part of the
process.
Throughout the seedlist you will see
“breeding by Peace Seedlings” which
means Dylana Kapuler and Mario DiBenedetto collaberated with nature to create
these new cultivars. Varieties noted as
“breeding by Peace Seeds” were developed by Alan and Linda Kapuler. All the seeds we offer in this catalog are grown, selected, cleaned and packed by us; Dylana Kapuler and Mario
DiBenedetto; Peace Seedlings.
Thanks to
everyone who helps make the garden happen, special thanks to Christian Petrovich a water wizard, Mushroom
and Linda Kapuler for over 40 years of seed preservation and breeding.
To Hal Brown for continuing your parents
generosity and collaboration.
To Dan and Tracey Lamblin, Breezy
Nebergal, Carol Ach and all of our
family and friends for your on going support of prolifiration of plant
diversity and public domain plant breeding.
Endless
Thanks to the natural world for all its reciprocity.
Dylana Kapuler
and Mario DiBenedetto
